New Apprenticeship Frameworks announced
Almost all of SkillsActive’s new Apprenticeship frameworks are now available for delivery, providing more flexible pathways for individuals looking to work in the active leisure sector. The Department for Business Innovation and Skills contracted SkillsActive through the UK Commission for Employment and Skills to develop and maintain new Apprenticeship frameworks that meet the requirements of the Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England and for Wales.
SkillsActive’s senior manager for Apprenticeships and entry to the workforce Sue Hook says: “We are confident these high quality frameworks will offer more streamlined pathways to gain a career and progress in the active leisure sector and meet the demands of our employers in all our subsectors.”
Due to the specification, the naming of the apprenticeship programmes have changed from level 2 to intermediate level and from level 3 to advanced level. The following new frameworks are now available for delivery:
• Spectator Safety
• Leisure Operations
• Instructing Exercise and Fitness
• Activity Leadership (pathways for outdoors, fitness and coaching)
• Advanced Playwork
• Advanced Spectator Safety
• Leisure Management
• Advanced Fitness
• Sports Development
• Outdoor Programmes
The intermediate level and advanced level coaching frameworks are still in development. We are waiting for the competence qualifications to be accredited and hope to have the new framework ready for delivery in September 2011. A number of NGBs such as LTA and ASA are already using apprenticeships across their sport; even more (eg RFL, County FAs, ECB) exploring the potential impact apprentices could make in delivering their Grow and Sustain strategies.
